European champions Spain scored in extra time to beat the Netherlands by a single goal and lift the FIFA World Cup 2010 trophy. Germany won against Uruguay to take third place…
Spain continued their run of 1-0 victories to outclass the Netherlands and add the FIFA World Cup of 2010 title to their kitty. This is their first world cup title ever, and the Netherlands will rue their miss, as it is their 3rd time as a losing finalist, and they have never managed to win the tournament ever. In another game on Saturday, Germany managed to get the better of Uruguay 3-2, to take third place.
Spain 1 Netherlands 0 (FINAL)
The regular 90 minutes saw no goals, and one thought that this was another tournament that would decide the winner on penalties. But the 2010 FIFA World Cup ended differently. In the 116th minute, just 4 minutes away from a penalty shootout, Andres Iniesta found the net for Spain. The Dutch were down to 10 men in the 111th minute, which set up Spain’s goal. The game saw some tight defense by the Dutch, whose strategy to nullify the flamboyant Spanish attack seemed to be working well. It was just the last 10 minutes of play that changed the game, with the sending off of John Heitinga, and the Spaniards scoring 5 minutes later.
Germany 3 Uruguay 2 (THIRD PLACE)
The game was tied at one a piece at half time. Uruguay took the lead early in the 2nd half, but Germany got the equalizer almost immediately. Sami Khedira headed one in the net for Germany in the 82nd minute to give them back the lead, and the game was nearly forced into extra time when a last-minute stunner from Forlan of Uruguay hit the German goal’s crossbar. The win gave Germany 3rd place for the second world cup running, and the 4th place was Uruguay’s best performance in 40 years.

Yes, Octopus Paul Allen got it right again. By winning the FIFA World Cup 2010, Spain have become first-time champions, and are also the first European team to win a world cup that has been held outside the continent of Europe.
España bien hecha!
